Business Credit Cards

Most businesses today have business credit cards at their disposal and this is for good reason too. Business credit cards operate in the name of the business and have to be paid back by the business and are used for the motivation of the business. Personal credit cards are different in the sense that they are motivated by personal desire whereas business credit cards are motivated by a rational and professional business orientation because they are used primarily for business purposes.

Many businesses pursue the opportunity to be equipped with a business credit card because it allows the business to remain liquid at all times (provided that the credit card is managed well). Quite often business owners are faced with the predicament of having to purchase stock during a time at which no money is available. Having a business credit card at one’s disposal can alleviate this issue as it provides the business with an opportunity to purchase stock, manufacture and then sell at a profit. Once profit has been made, the business is then able to reimburse their credit provider for loaning them the money.

Business credit cards are an excellent means to providing businesses with the opportunity to continue operating during the times when no positive cash in flows are streaming into the business bank account. Instead, the card offers them an opportunity to bridge the gap between delivery of goods or services and the payment for such. This is especially useful for those businesses that operate on a thirty day payment period whereby their customers are allowed a thirty day period to pay for their order received. During this period, up until payment the business may have no positive balance in the bank account to replenish raw materials and pay the various overheads. So, in having a business credit card, the business owner need not be anxious about not being able to honour their internal running costs and the inability to replenish stock to exploit profit objectives.

One of the many financial objectives of any business is to have immediate access to funds so that businesses are able to exploit opportunistic business ventures such as supplier discounts and fruitful business investments. A business owner without a business credit card may be disabled by the ability to pursue highly beneficial business pursuits such as discounts from core suppliers. Those businesses that are unable to embark on such opportunities just face far greater competitive strength from the competition. Thus, we can say that in some instances, a business credit card can enable a business to acquire competitive advantage.

The important thing to keep in mind with regard to this financial weapon is that the business credit card needs to be managed well. Payments need to be made promptly, correctly and without additional interest having accumulated to ensure full enjoyment of use and sustained benefits because failure to do so, can have far-reaching repercussions for the organization as it can prohibit it from financial freedom. On the other hand, a well-managed business credit card can open up many doors for the organization as it provides a credit rating upon which it will be determined whether or not a business with expansion potential can acquire additional financial leverage to facilitate expansion.
